A Homage to a Mentor Essay

A Tribute into a Mentor

I think everyone has a mentor. The face who well guided you, recognized you, shaped you, and many importantly, you looked up too. The 1st mentor I had after joining the United States Sea Corps just visited the time Cpl. Jason A. Rogers. My spouse and i never informed Cpl. Rogers I looked to him as a advisor, but this individual has made a big impact of living and my career. I used to be assigned to Bridge Platoon, Bridge Company, 8th Industrial engineer Support Battalion in September, 2006. I was in the third fire team in initial squad along with Cpl. Rogers. Having been the assistant squad head for the few months before deploying to Iraq. Once we got in country, having been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, to become the team leader. Through the deployment, Sgt. Rogers trained me the right way to be the best at the job, every other day lead well guided discussions about life lessons and experiences. He would under no circumstances lie to his Marine corps, and this individual always made sure we were taken care of, no matter what the circumstance. He stood up for the thing that was right, and was company in his decisions. He often made the squad perform everything with each other, and we became a family. After we returned from deployment, Sgt. Rogers was promoted to Staff Sergeant and received instructions to a different device. I was unfortunate to see him leave because he had a unique style of command, and I realized I would never come across someone who inspired myself the way this individual did. Despite the fact that he was a unique unit, We took on his leadership style and instilled the same qualities within my own Marines. Last year on The spring 9th, 2011, I was implemented to Afghanistan and received news that SSgt. Rogers had been wiped out in the brand of duty. He had only been in Afghanistan for two weeks, and it almost failed to seem true. I knew just how he encouraged me, nonetheless it was not right up until I attended his funeral, that I found how a large number of lives he affected. SSgt. Rogers is gone, but will never be ignored. He was and always will be a accurate mentor wonderful presence with live through virtually any Marine he ever led.
