How do the elements of ‘belonging' and ‘return' operate in Samson and Delilah and Whale Rider?

Samson and Delilah and Whale Riders are two films which usually deal with the conflict that can occur among tradition and modernity with the hand of colonisation. In both of these videos, within this issue, the components of belonging and return are dealt with. Samson, Delilah and Paikea most have a yearning to belong to their particular communities, families and culture, yet find themselves on the external for different reasons. All three characters start a voyage of return to their particular traditions, which results in a sense a sense of belonging for them. Through physical violence, challenging and connecting with Indigenous custom, use of conversation and visible techniques, Samson and Delilah and Whale Rider demonstrates the importance of belonging and the role that return can easily have on that.

Samson and Delilah is a slow-paced, repeated film which in turn examines the realities of your Postcolonial term for Aussie Indigenous neighborhoods through the eyes of Samson and Delilah. This film is essentially a journey of discovery to get Samson and Delilah, who also try to find a spot where they both fit in after being rejected by way of a respective families. This rejection and succeeding search to belong is highlighted by simply both assault and stop. Firstly, the acts of violence with this film are all catalysts for people two heroes to move on to new stages of their lives. The physical violence inflicted after them from other family members led them to escape to Alice Springs, the abduction of Delilah generated her dabbling in gasoline sniffing as a method of break free, and finally the vehicle accident which involved Delilah led her to getting back to her property, and helped bring Samson away of his drug caused reality. The violence inflicted upon Samson and Delilah symbolises the simple fact that these two characters had not yet identified a place by which they belonged.
