The rhetorical properties of the schematic structures of newspaper editorials: A comparison study of English and Persian editorials Alireza Bonyadi

Drawing on the idea of inter-cultural rhetoric examination and thinking about the important role of newspaper editorials in surrounding public viewpoints, this article investigates the schematic structures of Persian and English paper editorials of criticism. The purpose of this comparative study was going to explore the discourse conferences employed in the editorials from the New York Instances and Tehran Times. When revealing several interesting genre-specific features of schematic structures from the editorials in the two papers, the outcomes of the research also mentioned that cultural constraints did not substantially impact the schematic set ups of the editorials. However , they had implications for realization of certain rhetorical structures in the editorials.

Based on the idea that different speech communities have different ways of organizing ideas in writing to reflect all their cultural believed patterns, Contrastive Rhetoric Theory argues that these differences might cause failure of communication to get language learners (Kachru, 1995). Getting influenced by simply contrastive research, the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, rhetoric and pedagogy (Connor, 2008), the American applied sprachwissenschaftler Robert Kaplan (1966) initiated a study aiming to prove that language and producing are both cultural phenomena. Kaplan developed that ‘each language and each culture provides a paragraph order unique to itself, and this part of the learning of a particular language is the mastering of its reasonable system' (1966: 20). Kaplan's study, in fact , helped Contrastive Rhetoric to determine itself like a new field of study in the 1990s, aiming to respond ‘to the needs of American colleges and universities facing an increased volume of international and immigrant college students who needed to acquire the talk conventions of English educational writing' (Kubota and Lehner, 2004: 5). After the first cross-cultural research of contrastive rhetoric covering the expository documents of ESL students together with the aim of identifying writing concerns caused mainly by their L1 rhetorical tactics, the genre-specific studies bought an important position in rhetorical studies. In addition, studies on genre research contributed to the further development of contrastive rhetoric studies to examine additional domains on paper. To mention just a couple outstanding research of this kind, we may make reference to the analysis of genre in a specialist setting simply by Bhatia (1993), a cross-cultural analysis of job applications by Connor et al. (1995), plus the cross-cultural examine of organization letters in English, The french language and Japan conducted simply by Jenkins and Hinds (1987). Thus, in accordance with this craze, studying the newspaper like a kind of professional genre founded itself like a new inquiry in contrastive rhetoric studies.
